Hello! I’m Carly or CarlySpat according to my Instagram! This is my blog all about running and life in general! I currently live in Baltimore, Maryland with my husband and our two crazy dogs, a Boston Terrier and a Jack Russell mix. I got into running in 2016 and developed a love for marathons! So far, I have completed 11 marathons ranging from times of 3:49 to my current personal record of 2:55. I decided to start this blog to share what I’ve learned and am still learning along the way!
I would also like to touch on life in general, because life is not just running! I work full time as a pharmacist. I am constantly trying to live a balanced life.

I grew up in a small town in Northwest Pennsylvania. I am the youngest of three. My parents, my sisters, and I are all very close! I would consider moving back to NWPA if it wasn’t so cold there in the winter! I don’t tolerate cold as well as I used to. They also get hit with all that lake effect snow from Lake Erie. Although, I do love going back and visiting! I still call it “going home” even though I haven’t lived there longer than a month in the last fourteen years.
I went to pharmacy school in Boston. That is also where I met my husband. My pharmacy school and his medical school were across the street from each other. We met in real life at a dive bar in the area. This was pre-online dating mania! My husband, Akash got into residency in Baltimore, which is why we left Boston! We didn’t know anything about Baltimore before moving there and we love it! Baltimore is where I started to get into running!
I’ve always loved animals and wanted a dog. When I graduated and got my first job as a pharmacist, one of the first things I did was get a Boston Terrier and named him Polu. He is named after my favorite football player, Troy Polamalu. I’m a Steelers fan by the way! He was the runt of his litter and was such a quiet, little guy for the first week we had him and then he turned wild! He was so insanely full of energy and still is at 6 years old! I remember, when he was a puppy, having to hold him down until he went to sleep at night, otherwise he would run around the bedroom for hours. At doggy daycare, they reported that he doesn’t stop until they make him take a break. He will play fetch all day and every day if someone will throw his ball for him. A year and a half later, one dog became two. We fell in love with this cute, little, kinda funny looking pup at a shelter. She is part Jack Russell and we are not sure what she is mixed with! Her name is Luna. It is short for lunatic. She loves belly rubs! She’s scared of most things and spends quite a bit of time hiding under the bed. She also tries to hoard ice cubes and gets really confused when her collection melts.
I hope you’ll continue to follow along on my journey through running and life!
